According to reports by the Huffington Post, wireless and mobile service providers such as Verizon and AT&T have been denying their employees' holiday requests for mid-September, this requires no Sherlock Holmes to put two and two together and trace the rumor back to the anticipated launch of Apple's next generation iPhone on September 12th and its release on the 21st.
Eric Savitz of Forbes Magazine said that the sales of iPhone 5 might be the most important in the company's history. According to business analysts, Apple might sell as many as 250 million of its next generation iPhone. So of course mobile carriers are preparing to deal with stampedes of people rushing in to buy, or at least check out the iPhone 4S' successor. Verizon and AT&T realize that they're going to need all the help they can get in attending to the huge numbers of customers.
According to FBR Capital's Craig Berger the release of the iPhone 5 could be "one of the largest single product opportunities in Apple's history," as reported by the International Business Times. This will surely have a positive impact on the sales of the various carriers such as Verizon and AT&T. As Berger predicts customers are more likely to upgrade, regardless of eligibility, since according to Berger upgrade is more influenced by the product than eligibility, "Together, we expect the two positive catalysts will help drive one of the largest and balanced product cycles in Apple's history," as reported by Forbes. And this will have a trickle down to various stores offering the product.
So as customers brace for September 12th which New York Times reveals as the "semi-confirmed," date of launch and also the day Apple will start accepting pre-orders.
For the past couple of months, techies have managed to predict many of its features. On Monday, the website i4uNews, stated that industrial designer Don Lehman says that iPhone 5 will likely possess a unibody, becoming the first smartphone to have a unibody built.
According to the website an insider from Apple is quoted saying "the leaked [iPhone 5] design has three pieces of metal instead of four. It still has two U-shaped pieces at the top and bottom, but this time the two flat sides become one single piece of metal that also comprises the back of the device. That single piece of metal is the unibody backplate."
There is also much talk about the iPhone 5's larger screen. The current model has a screen of 3.5 inches, while speculators say the new one will have a screen of four inches; others think it could be even bigger - 4.8 inches. The Washington Post reports, "It's likely that Apple's going to pump up the screen size. But, since Apple is a company that prizes usability, it's unlikely that the phone will get too big for the majority of consumers to use one-handed."
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the latest iPhone screen will contain a new in-cell design in which the touch-screen sensors are embedded within the LCD screen, the new technology allows for higher quality graphics. The technology also permits the body of the phone to be more slender than its predecessor.
Reuters reported that the new iPhone will come with a new dock connector. According to the report the dock connector of the iPhone 5 will be a 19-pin port as opposed to the 30 pin port connector of the iPhone 4S. This essentially means that the accessories including chargers that iPhone users possess now will be rendered useless should they decide to up-grade to the latest iPhone.

The iPad mini is also expected to be released in September along with the iPhone 5.
