James Patterson Highest Earning Author: Save Fifty Shades of Gray for 2013, 2012 belongs to Legal Thrillers, Stephen King and John Grisham Follow make the Top Five

On Friday, according to a "Forbes Richest Author List 2012," the author who has become famous for his legal thrillers is labeled as the richest writer of the year, with a reported $94 million for 14 of his books published between 2011 and 2012.

The next two writers have also made the big bucks in the same genre of legal thrillers. King earned $39 million for his Dark Tower series and 11/22/63 - a book on the assassination of JFK, President John F. Kennedy . This was followed by Janet Evonovich whose Stephanie Plum suspense series earned her $33 million and also making her the richest female author. Another best-selling author who topped the list is Grisham made $26 million for a series of legal thrillers.

While the list for 2013 is likely to include the author of the popular erotic series "Fifty Shades of Gray," EL James, the year of 2012 belonged to the legal-suspense thriller genre.

The legal suspense thriller has been an all-time favorite genre and continues to excite and encourage readers.
