Weird Legal News: Woman Fakes Labor to Evade Arrest for Shoplifting, Was she Even Pregnant?

By

On Thursday, police arrested an Ohio woman for shoplifting from a Macy Department Store and then escaping arrest by faking labor complications.

29-year-old Tamala Grissett shoplifted goods worth $1,297 at a Macy's store at the Kenwood Towne Center in Ohio. When police tracked her down and arrived at her home, she presented them with a fake Driver's License. On discovering the ID was fake, police attempted to handcuff the 29-year-old, but she resisted and threatened to kill of the police officers. And then said she would file an abuse complaint against the cops if they did not leave.

When none of that worked, determined to evade an arrest, Grissett faked going into labor. Police took her to a near-by University hospital, where Grissett slipped away from and finally escaped arrest. Or at least she thought, but police caught on to her when they spotted her at a local McDonalds just a block away.

She was arrested and taken into the Hamilton County Justice Center. Grissett is being charged with theft, escape, aggravated menacing and obstructing official business according to reports by Fox News 19.

The Huffington Post reported that after all that Grissett might not even be pregnant. Police have not released any information regarding the arrest or any details.

As Find Law states, it's always better to follow "the golden rule of police encounters," that is to cooperate with authorities, exert your right to attorney and take it from there.
