Floyd Mayweather: Boxer Released from a Jail in Las Vegas

By

On Friday morning, famous boxer Floyd Mayweather was released from a jail in Las Vegas after serving two months of a three-month sentence for a battery misdemeanor charge.

Mayweather, better known by his nickname "Money" walked out of the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas among family and friends, including his famous celebrity buddy 50 Cents. Mayweather has been in jail since June 1, after he pled guilty in 2011 to reduced domestic battery charges claimed by his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris. He pled guilty to avoid convictions to more serious felony charges that could have gotten him up to 34 years in prison if he was convicted. Mayweather has three children with Harris. Harris currently lives in Los Angeles.

His lawyers argued that the strict confinement, lack of exercise and food was affecting the health of the champion athlete and would cause irreparable damages to his career. However, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa disagreed. Never the less the 35-year old undefeated boxer was given a 30-day break from his 90-day prison sentence for good behavior.

Mayweather is a five-division world champion boxer, with eight world titles and two-time winner of the "Fighter of the Year" award. He was also awarded a diamond belt by the World Boxer Council. Last month Forbes Magazine labeled him as the world's highest-paid athlete for 2011.

Niether Mayweather nor his lawyers made any comments to the media as he left the jail in a blue Bentley Sedan with his 12-year-old daughter Iyanna Mayweather, his manager, Leonard Ellerbe and rapper 50 Cent.
