On Thursday, 16-year-old Gabrielle 'Gabby' Douglas won the gold medal in the individual floor exercise round at the London Summer Olympics 2012. The 16-year-old, who has become noted for her acute talent and beaming smile became the first African American woman to take home the gold medal for the all-round Olympic Champion.

Gabby told USA Today reporters, "Someone mentioned that I was the first black American (to win the all-around gold), and I said, 'Oh yeah, I forgot about that!' I feel so honored."

Gabby, originally from Virginia Beach, marched up to podium to be honored; she defeated Russia's Viktoria Komova, who won the silver, and Russia's Aliya Mustafina, who won the bronze.

Gabby is the fourth American woman to win the All-Around Champion title. Looks like Gabby's dream to inspire a nation is certainly accomplished, "I hope that I inspire people. I want to inspire people. My mother said you can inspire a nation," she told USA Today.

US President Barrack Obama told Gabby "You just tore it up. I know how hard you worked to get there...Keep at it. Stay cool," referring to team win the previous day, according to USA Today.

On Wednesday, the gymnasts of Team USA received a call from President Barrack Obama who congratulated the five women for bagging the gold medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the first Gold win for the nation in that department since 1996, 16-years! The "fab five" as they have come to be called is made of 17-year-old Jordyn Wieber, 16-year-old Gabrielle 'Gabby' Douglas, 18-year-old Alexandra 'Aly' Raisman, 16-year-old McKayla Maroney, and 15-year-old Kyla Ross.

"I told these young ladies, as I was congratulating them: 'How do you not bust your head every time you're on that little balance beam? I couldn't walk across that balance beam... I have to tell you, when I'm watching-when people run track, you know, I understand. I know how to run, they're just much faster. And I know how to swim, they just swim much better than I do," the president told a group of supporters in a campaign rally in Ohio, as reported by Yahoo News, he added "And we could not be prouder of them and everything they're doing on our behalf,"
