London.-First Lady Michelle was right there to witness the US basketball team defeat France at the London Olympics. After beating team France in a 98-71 win in a game that lasted for 40 minutes the team headed to the center of the court to celebrate the victory and then as they left the court, each player got a congratulatory hug from Michelle Obama who seemed ecstatic with the victory.
"For her to be sitting there while we're out there competing - not just for us, but for our country - for her to be there, we gave her a hug to thank her for coming...And she thanked us for going out there and doing what we're doing for America," Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks player to USA Today.
Mrs. Obama headed for Washington the same day, presumably on a happy note. Last Friday, the First Lady made her way to London as Head of team U.S.A. delegation. The first lady met with athletes from team U.S.A. as she offered words of encouragement, posed for pictures and even took a swing with the tennis racket.
At a breakfast in East London near the Olympic Park, she encouraged athletes telling them "whatever happens here...you never know who you're inspiring by just being here and your hard work," she went on to remind the athletes that it's not just about the competition, but also about having a good time, "you guys look pretty focused, you should be," she said, "but take advantage - stop and look around you, try to have fun, try to breathe a little, but also win right?!" she added "in the end winning is good."
Michele Obama also visited U.S.O.C.'s training center based at the University of East London's Docklands campus, she also spoke about her campaign against child obesity and said the Olympics is a great inspiration to children all over the world to get off the coach and be active. She also spent some time at a sport carnival with as many as a 1000 children most of whom were from U.S. Military families based in Great Britain.
Mrs. Obama also attended a reception at the Buckingham Palace, where she shook hands with the Queen Elizabeth II, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, Prince Williams and other dignitaries.
Currently, USA has bagged 13 gold medals, behind China by two and ahead of Italy by five.
