Obama’s Biggest Mistake: The President Talks about His Biggest Mistake

By

WASHINGTON. - President Barrack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama sit down the White House Blue room in a CBS interview with Charlie Rose. Obama names his biggest mistake during the first few years of his reign as president as focusing excessively on policy and undermining the importance of inspiring the American people.

"When I think about what we've done well and what we haven't done well," the president said, "the mistake of my first term - couple of years - was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times," according to CBS News.

Obama said he wants to focus on getting to know the American people and become more accessible to the real issues of the common man, to inspire them.

Obama says his ability to inspire which was a large part of his persona during his run for president in 2008, got lost somewhere down the road in his work as president. "It's funny - when I ran, everybody said, well he can give a good speech but can he actually manage the job?" he said. "And in my first two years, I think the notion was, 'Well, he's been juggling and managing a lot of stuff, but where's the story that tells us where he's going?' And I think that was a legitimate criticism," as reported by CBS News.

The complete interview will air on CBS' "CBS Sunday Morning" with Charlie Rose on July 15.
