The FBI reports in the investigation of the former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse show that the University head football coach knew about the molestation allegations and blatantly denied it.
The reports specifically show reference to the 1998 shower incidence, in which the mother of the victim filed a complaint to the university regarding Sandusky showering with her son and touching him inappropriately. The reports shows in depth emails titled "Jerry" between top University officials President Graham Spanier, Vice President Gary Schultz, Athletic Director Tim Curley as well as the deceased head football coach Joe Paterno as actively and consciously trying to hide the 1998 incident.
This means that JoePa's (as Paterno is popularly referred as) grand jury testimony, before his passing in January 2012, was deliberately misleading; "I do not know of anything else that Jerry Sandusky would be involved in, no. I do not know of it. You did mention-I think you said something about a rumor. It may have been discussed in my presence, something else about somebody. I don't know. I don't remember, and I could not honestly say I heard a rumor," as reported on Deadspin.
But the reports released by former FBI director Louis Freeh indicate that Schultz in an email told Curly that "he touched base with the coach (Paterno)," on the shower incident.
The entire 270 plus page report can be found here. The report is a result of seven months of investigation covering over 400 interviews and 3.5 million documents.
In June, Jerry Sandusky, 68, was convicted on 40 counts of child abuse. He currently awaits his sentencing in a country jail. He could face a prison sentence of more than 300 years if given the maximum sentence.
The University officials also face a series of charges in the cover up. PSU officials said that they were willing to settle with victims in order to avoid civil lawsuits.
