DELHI, India. - Abu Jindal, the 'planner' of the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai has been arrested by Delhi's (the national capital) police department.
Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, who is also known as Abu Jindal has been taken into police custody where he will be charged with terrorism crimes. Ansari was allegedly the gunman handler in the 60-hour siege of theMumbai Taj hotel, railway and a Jewish center, which rendered in the deaths of 165.
India's foreign minister, Krishna said of the arrest, "Let the Delhi police go through the investigation first, and then they will send a report to the government," according to Reuters.
The group responsible for the attacks was identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terrorist group. The attack was perpetrated by 10 gunmen; nine of them were killed in the cross-fire by Indian commandos. The last one, Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, was sentenced to death in 2010 after being convicted of murder and wagging war on India.
Qasab, however, confessed to authorities that Ansari trained the 10 men and made most of the arrangements for the attack. NDTV, a reputable Indian news organization, showed a video of Ansari telling the gunmen, the Mumbai "attack was a trailer and the entire movie was yet to come," according to the New York Times.
The interior minister said that Ansari will be under police interrogation for 15 days before the case is passed on to the government.
The arrests arouse new intensity between India and Pakistan's already animus rapport caused by Pakistan's hesitation in capturing Hafiz Sayeed, the master-mind of the attack. Although peace talks between the two nuclear powers have resumed since, the arrest is sure to reopen tattered bonds.
