BELLEFONTE, Pa. - It's 8.00a.m. Jerry Sandusky along with his wife Dottie, son Matt and attorney Joe Amendola entered the Center County Court in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania for the first day of after a long eight month pretrial period.
Joseph McGettigan, deputy state Attorney general, leading the prosecution team made his opening statements about the "systemic behavior of a predator," (PennLive.com reported) to a jury of seven women and five men.
After a short recess, defense attorney Amendola made his opening statements in which he stated, ""Jerry loves kids so much that he does things none of us would ever dream of doing...The evidence will show these kids had problems. Over the years, Jerry dealt with hundreds of thousands of kids. There's eight accusers," (PennLive.com reported).
Amendola shed light on the fact that in no instances was the police ever called, even by Michael McQueary, the prosecutor's star witness, a former assistant coach to Sandusky.
All jurors have close ties to the state of Pennsylvania. Among the jurors is a retired Penn State Professor, a student who recently graduated from the university, as well as a ticket-holder for the football games, as reported by the New York Post.
The ex-Penn State football coach, Jerry Sandusky has been charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse and molestation of young boys during his reign as associate football coach at the University. Prosecutors say that Sandusky had molested over 10 young boys over the span of 15 years. Sandusky has repeatedly denied all charges and claims not-guilty.
According to judge Cleland's order, all victim names' will be made public.
The case has been of keen public interest and as expected is grabbing great media attention.
