New Brunswick, N.J. - Dharun Ravi, 20, is set to start his 30-day jail sentence Thursday. Ravi, reports this afternoon to Middlesex County Sheriff, Mildred Scott, this afternoon, who will take him to the county jail so he can start serving his prison term.
Ravi will serve 20 days in jail and will be given time off for good behavior. After time in prison, he will begin his 350 hours community service as a part of his sentence.
Ravi addressed the court Wednesday stating, "My behavior and actions, which at no time were motivated by hate, bigotry, prejudice or desire to hurt, humiliate or embarrass anyone, were nonetheless the wrong choices and decisions. I apologize to everyone affected by those choices," as reported by newjersey.com
The ex-Rutgers student was convicted of recording a video of his roommate having sex with another man and then posting the video on the internet, consequentially leading to the suicide of his roommate, Tyler Clementi.
