DLA Piper today announced that prominent lawyers Neal Aizenstein, Andrew Weil and Michael Legamaro have joined the firm in Chicago as partners. Aizenstein and Weil join the firm’s Corporate and Finance practice, while Legamaro joins the Tax practice. The team joins DLA Piper from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, where Aizenstein also served as Chicago office managing partner.
The team represents a variety of large and mid-size public and private companies, investment banking firms and financial institutions. Before joining Morgan Lewis, the team practiced together at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, where Aizenstein led that firm’s Chicago corporate practice and Weil served as national chair of its securities/public company group.
“Neal, Andrew and Michael bring well-established, sophisticated practices to DLA Piper that are ideally situated to benefit from our global platform,” said Roger Meltzer, global chair of DLA Piper’s Corporate and Finance practice. “Their extensive experience in complex transactions will also be a tremendous benefit to our clients in the US and abroad.”
“It’s unique for a corporate team of this quality to enjoy such a long and successful history of working together,” said David Mendelsohn, chair of DLA Piper’s Chicago Corporate and Finance practice. “We are pleased that this high-profile group has joined us in Chicago as we continue to build out our corporate and tax capabilities both in Chicago and globally.”
“Neal, Andrew and Michael are well known and respected leaders within the Chicago legal community,” explained Michael Poulos, co-managing partner of DLA Piper’s Chicago office. “Their arrival reinforces our continued commitment to attract the best lawyers to the Chicago office.”
Aizenstein, Weil and Legamaro are among more than 20 lawyers who have joined DLA Piper across the United States since January, including Wesley Nissen in Chicago, who arrived in March from Winston & Strawn LLP to head DLA Piper’s Financial Services group.
Also joining DLA Piper in Chicago in the Corporate and Finance and Tax practices are Matthew Sperry, of counsel, and associates Matthew McKim and Jonathan Disner. They arrive from Morgan Lewis as well.
