By

Asian Legal Business (ALB) magazine has ranked Jones Day in the top tier for its 2012 Asia Intellectual Property rankings. ALB, owned by Thomson Reuters, is considered a leading source of information for businesses and professionals throughout Asia Pacific and the Middle East. According to ALB, Jones Day's IP Practice in Asia "has a strong reputation for litigation matters, especially those regarding patents. It is well known for trademark infringement and counterfeiting issues, while portfolio management and regulatory work also featured on the team's workload in the last year."

ALB also noted that, "In China, the team has particular knowledge of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, having recently advised several multinationals on extensive patent litigations. The firm has handled multiple complex trade secret, copyright, criminal prosecution, and civil litigations in the last year. The Hong Kong group has also seen a growth in licensing and franchising matters." Peers affirm that the "group is definitely top tier, and the lawyers have all the necessary technological background." Marketplace sources further add that "they are strong in brand protection and see a lot of work."

IP Partner Tony Chen leads the team in China and Hong Kong, Tokyo Partner-in-Charge Nobutoshi Yamanouchi is the main contact in Japan, and partner Jason Chen heads the team in Taipei.

Jones Day is a global law firm practicing in the major centers of business and finance throughout the world. Ranked among the world's best and most integrated law firms, and perennially ranked among the best in client service, Jones Day acts as principal outside counsel to, or provides significant legal representation for, approximately half of the Fortune 500, the Fortune Global 500, and the FT Global 500.
