Freshfields Appoints Johannes Conradi as New Real Estate Practice Group Leader

By

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has elected Hamburg based, Johannes Conradi, as the new global practice group leader (PGL) for the firm’s real estate practice. Johannes, who will assume the role from 1 May 2012, succeeds London based partner Chris Morris as he completes a second term in the role.

As PGL, Johannes will continue to drive forward the growth of the practice in all aspects of commercial real estate, including advising on cross-border transactions, tax efficiency, complex investment structures, development projects, property finance and planning law.

Commenting on the election, Ted Burke, managing partner said: ‘Johannes’ extensive experience and skills make him an excellent candidate for this role. Under Chris Morris’s direction the real estate practice has maintained its leading edge in the market and we look forward to Johannes taking this forward.’

Johannes said: ‘This is a challenging time for the real estate sector. The recent economic climate has inevitably had an impact on the availability of property finance and led to a slow down in moves and expansions plans. However, this is precisely when the experience of established and specialist advisers like ours comes to the fore as they are adept at finding innovative solutions in challenging times.’

Profile

Johannes’ areas of practice include advising domestic and international investors, real estate developers, financial institutions and public sector clients on all aspects of real estate transactions, project developments and real estate finance.

He completed his legal education at the universities of Hamburg and Munich. He qualified as a German Rechtsanwalt in 1993, and as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1997. All major legal directories (including "Legal 500", "Chambers Global", "PLC Which Lawyer", "Who's Who Legal" and "JUVE-Handbuch Wirtschaftskanzleien") have constantly been ranking Johannes amongst a small number of leading real estate lawyers in Germany. The "Guide to the World's Leading Real Estate Lawyers", published by the Legal Media Group, has placed him in the world's top 25 real estate lawyers.

Johannes has been a partner with the firm since 1998. From 2000 to 2006, he was co-leader of Freshfields global real estate practice.
