The Atlanta office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP announces that Joe D. Whitley, Shareholder and Chair of the Atlanta White Collar Litigation Practice Group, will be a presenter at the American Bar Association’s 22nd Annual National Institute on Health Care Fraud. The conference will take place May 9-11, 2012 at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas.
Whitley will serve as the Moderator for a trial practice demonstration focusing on the case of State of Texas v. Khaled Jabboury on Friday, May 11th. The session will feature the trial teams and presiding judge from the case and will examine key issues from the trial, including physician billing practices, reimbursement policies of private insurance companies, civil settlements and the standard of medical care. The panel will also discuss jury voir dire and trial strategies used during the case.
After an extensive career with the Department of Justice, Whitley joined Greenberg Traurig and now lends his experience to educating clients about health care fraud. Whitley is the former and first General Counsel to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a twice-appointed U.S. Attorney. Whitley’s national and international legal experience includes white collar criminal matters and regulatory enforcement, U.S. export controls and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance.
The National Institute on Health Care Fraud brings together professionals from all areas of health care law, including compliance professionals, regulators and attorneys, to discuss current issues facing the health care fraud practice. Topics addressed during the three-day conference will include foundations of health law, Medicaid fraud, Stark Law and compliance, the False Claims Act, qui tam relators and government counsel.
