The jury in the trial of George Huguely V, who has been charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend and classmate Yeardley Love, will get to see, Friday, an hour-long video recording of the statement the murder accused made to the police soon after the victim's body was found.
The video will not be shown to be public, including the media.
Love, 22, was a star lacrosse player at the University of Virginia. Huguely, 24, was also a lacrosse player for the school's nationally ranked team.
Prosecutors have accused Huguely of kicking through the door of Love's bedroom the night she died, shaking her violently, banging her head against the wall, and then leaving her alone and bleeding.
The roommate who had found Love's lifeless body, recalled that her face was bloody and bruised, and her left eye was swollen shut.
The defense lawyers claim Love's death was caused by fatal combination of Adderall and alcohol that caused her heart to stop. The police had responded to a 911 call for a possible alcohol overdose.
Prosecution witness Dr. Renu Virmani, a renowned cardiovascular pathologist, however, said she couldn't find anything "wrong with her (Love's) heart that caused her death."
Virmani said a heart problem couldn't have led to brain hemorrhaging too. "I have seen at least 300 hearts a year for over 30 years and that's not possible," Virmani said.
Dr. Danny Mistry, the primary care physician for UVA sports teams, also said Love was in excellent shape and did not suffer from any medical condition that could have led to her death.
On Thursday, Michael Burns, a University of North Carolina lacrosse player, whose on-and-off relationship with Love allegedly made Huguely jealous, testified that he once saw Huguely grab hold of Love's throat in a death grip.
Burns told jurors that in February 2010, he heard Love screaming "Help me, help me" in her bedroom and when he rushed inside he "saw George's hands around Yeardley's neck."
When Huguely saw Burns, he released his grip on Love and turned away. Love, who was hysterically crying, rushed to Burns and had said, "Thank you so much. I couldn't breathe."
The last time Burns and Love were together was April 25, 2010. Love's dead body was found on May 3.
Prosecutors say Huguely was upset to see Love and Burns together. Shortly before she died, he had sent her an email, saying, "When I found out about Mike Burns, I should have killed you."
